Perth, WA – In a strategic move to bolster cannabis law reform, renowned advocates Paul and Sharlene Mavor have declared their candidacies for the Legalise Cannabis WA Party (LCWA) in the upcoming state election. Paul will vie for the Kwinana seat, while Sharlene will campaign in Dawesville.
A registered pharmacist in Australia and the UK, Paul Mavor has been at the forefront of medicinal cannabis advancements. In 2017, his company secured Australia's inaugural medicinal cannabis import and export license, facilitating patient access nationwide and internationally. Currently, Paul serves as a director at Omega Assets, a hemp food and beverage enterprise known for products like HERBEE hemp-infused beverages and Chanvre hemp-fed beef. He also co-founded Western Australia's first dedicated plant-based medicine dispensary in Malaga, recently expanding to Mount Hawthorn.
On his decision to contest the Kwinana seat, Paul remarked:
"Roger Cook may feel secure in Kwinana, but I want to bring home to him just how many cannabis users, both medicinal and recreational, call his electorate home, and demand that he stands up for their right to affordable medical care, and an end to the unfounded discrimination many patients face on our roads and at work."
Sharlene Mavor, a medical scientist, co-founded and manages Medical Cannabis Research Australia (MCRA), a charity offering scientific education and guidance to medicinal cannabis patients. As a founding member of the Australian Chapter of the Society of Cannabis Clinicians, she recently completed a chronic pain observational study with WA GP Dr. Matty Moore.
Campaigning in Dawesville, Sharlene emphasized the importance of science-driven policy:
"The government needs to start listening to the science when it comes to cannabis, something they’ve been too cloth-eared, or too arrogant, to do over recent years. That ends now, with this election campaign."
Together, the Mavors developed Indica Hemp House, an accommodation venture showcasing the sustainability of hempcrete construction, ideal for Western Australia's climate.
Their candidacies highlight LCWA's dedication to cannabis law reform, medicinal cannabis accessibility, and sustainable industry practices in Western Australia.
As the state election approaches, the Mavors' participation brings renewed focus to discussions on drug policy, patient rights, and environmental sustainability.
