It was a night of triumph for Margaret River Hemp Company at the inaugural iHempWA Awards 2023 as it was named Hemp Business of the Year and founder Georgina Wilkinson took home the Lifetime Contribution and Champion of Champions trophies.

The State Government has poured almost $400,000 into the mix for an innovative new building material based on hemp. The support is a major win for local builder and former Margaret River Hemp Co owner Gary Rogers, who has championed hemp as a building material during the past decade.

Australian charity Collective Fashion Justice is urging the government to provide support for industrial hemp to allow more farmers to grow it alongside other natural fibres. It suggests wool producers be supported to switch to the fibre with the goal of reducing the overall number of livestock.
